Lean FIRE means retiring on bare minimum expenses (basic needs only). Fat FIRE means retiring with enough to maintain a comfortable or even luxurious lifestyle. Fat FIRE requires 2–3x more corpus than Lean FIRE.
What is Barista FIRE?
Barista FIRE is a middle path — you retire from your high-stress career but do light part-time work to cover some expenses. This halves your required corpus since you only need to fund ~50% of your expenses from investments.
Is the 25x rule valid for India?
The 25x rule (based on 4% withdrawal) was developed for the US. In India, higher inflation (6–7%) suggests a 30–33x multiplier may be safer for a 30+ year retirement.
